SECTOR: PRIMARY INDUSTRY

Sector Stability A Climate‑Exposed, Politically Contested Industry

Context
The hardwood timber industry operated under intense pressure: climate‑driven natural disasters, environmental expectations, political contestation and regulatory scrutiny.

Challenge
The sector lacked credible data, consistent messaging and the capability to navigate a contested policy environment. Fragmented advocacy left it vulnerable to policy shocks, misrepresentation and reputational damage.

Approach
We built a shared evidence base on economic contribution, environmental performance and climate‑era relevance. Governance and capability were strengthened, and sector‑level engagement was coordinated through structured advocacy and evidence‑based messaging.

Implementation
Boards and executives were supported to clarify priorities, engage government effectively and manage political risk. Representation at inquiries and working groups was professionalised.

Results
The sector gained a coherent narrative, improved capability to engage policymakers and reduced exposure to misinformation and volatility. It established a more stable foundation for long‑term transformation.
